ISR Matrix
ISR Matrix originated in Florida USA. I.S.R (Intercept, Stabilize, and Resolve) is the guiding philosophy behind the system. An officer's primary
objective is to safely and efficiently intercede, control, and resolve a situation regardless of the level of resistance he or she encounters from
verbal on through to deadly force. A uniform yet dynamic system, the I.S.R. Matrix allows for rapid escalation and de-escalation of force within
every response level as it relates to the resistance level being encountered. It completely enables and empowers officers with the guidelines
and means to handle any situation while using the minimum appropriate levels of force to overcome resistance as it transpires and evolves.
As a working matrix of interconnected or interwoven options it exists as a highly efficient, uniform, and very adaptable system of Defensive
Tactics. It functions as a complimentary network of training approaches, working concepts, and highly effective techniques that are readily
accessible within the legal framework or use of force guidelines currently in use by law enforcement agencies internationally. ISR Matrix has
provided ongoing training for the US Defence Departments OSI Anti-Terrorism Speciality Team and is the preferred Defensive Tactics
program of various other Police and Military units. www.isrmatrixaustralia.com and www.isrmatrix.org
ISR Matrix Subject Control (To sponsor this 16 hour session see our Sponsor Options page)
The ISR Matrix Subject Control is the core common element of all ISR Matrix programs, civilian Physical Management (PM), Law Enforcement
(LE) and Armed Forces (AF). It is designed primarily for unarmed personnel working in environments that require subject control, restraint,
and transportation such as executive protection, hospital orderlies, security guards, bouncers etc. From individual to team tactics, the system
is designed to be taught directly to the specific needs of the security guard, team, institution or business requiring the training.
ISR Matrix LE (To sponsor this session see our Sponsor Options page)
The ISR Matrix Law Enforcement (LE) is designed for the patrol officer first and foremost as a complete defensive tactics system that can
easily and readily be integrated with existing SOP and use of force continuums as needed or required. From presence on through to the use
of deadly force, it grants officers the ability to adapt and escalate and/or de-escalate in direct proportion to subject(s) resistance levels. It
builds on the unarmed subject control material and includes weapon retention, team tactics, vehicle extractions and may introduce transitions
between use of force options. The ISR Matrix LE component is available only to serving LE and Military, not to private security. Private security
enrolling in this module will instead be offered concurrent additional training in the ISR Matrix Physical Management stream.

Pro-Com Consulting
Adaptive Tactical Communication, (To sponsor this session see our Sponsor Options page)
Pro-Com Consulting designs, develops and delivers purpose built communications programs to Government and corporate clients. Projects
include the development and roll-out of a new communications package for the Australian Customs Service nationally and more recently
developing crisis negotiation capability for specialist groups within Australian law enforcement agencies. Pro-Com does not advertise and
relies only upon good reputation and word within the law enforcement, military and private sectors from those exposed to the program.
This session provides an insight into the Adaptive Communication process and the many communication and negotiation strategies and
techniques employed. ‘Adaptive Communication’ uses a system known as ‘REAL’ and teaches officers to talk naturally whilst thinking
tactically, to develop their own style delivered within a set of professional communication boundaries and based on the elements of
Adaptability, awareness, strategy and delivery. It provides a consistency of approach and caters to everything from PR and traffic stops
through to hostage negotiation. This session will begin with the history of negotiation in Australia, principles of negotiation and factors
influencing use of force. A number of theory elements will be discussed and this session will also feature various role plays, practical
exercises and live coaching.
Theory elements will include SSR/BAR and communication, communications aim, safety, systems and maintenance, perception, emotion
versus content, the REAL concept, essential dialogue, elements of effective communication - adaptability, awareness, strategy, delivery;
sentence structure.
Communication boundaries, communication behaviours, suicide intervention and hostage survival will also be introduced, along with
methods of applying the system and putting it all together.
Tactical Intelligence and Operational Decision Making (To sponsor this session see our Sponsor Options page)
Having trained over one thousand front-line mission critical decision makers in operational decision making, Anthony McLean will introduce
participants to a decision making session that is anything but dry or boring. The decision to enter a stronghold, to put staff lives at risk and to
learn from the mistakes made is one for many in the community they will never have to make. In mission critical environments however this is
a luxury that is rarely realised. Some decision makers fold and others excel. Why? For many they clearly understand the technical skills but
struggle in explaining operational decisions to those who were not only not there but also lack the operational experience to understand the
pressures experienced in the real-world. Why?
This session will introduce participants to:
· Critical Decisions – What are they?
· How do people respond under pressure
· Making time critical decisions in the real-world
· Explaining decisions to others (killing hindsight and the concept of Good and Bad decisions)
· Not observing; but learning from the lessons and modifying performance
This session will use error based learning to reflect on the operational mistakes. We were not there when these decisions were made but as
professionals we can learn from them and be glad we weren’t in the hot seat when it all went to custard! This session is for practitioners who
work in the real-world. It is grounded in research, theory and practical experience but delivered in a way that you can immediately transfer the
knowledge and skills into the operational environment.
Charity Dinner Fundraiser - 3 course meal, 3 hour drinks package and guest speaker Derrick McManus. A night to remember and all
proceeds to charity. Only $125 per ticket. Tables of 6,8 and 10 available. (To sponsor this session see our Sponsor Options page)
On 3 May 1994 Senior Constable Derrick McManus was shot 14 times with a high-powered semi-automatic rifle in less than 5 seconds. He
literally laughed at the time he was being shot and still laughs about it today.
Derrick is not one to take serious matters lightly. He prepares well for the contingencies that life may bring. Working in the elite SA Police
Special Task And Rescue (STAR) Group Derrick knew there were many dangers – High Risk Arrest, Hostage/Siege situations, Counter-
Terrorism and cliff/cave/mine rescues to mention a few. However, Derrick was so well prepared for the perils that come with high-risk work
that he dealt with the shooting decisively while literally laughing with himself about ‘what the boys would say when he gets back to work’. He
returned fire and found protection but with broken bones and severed arteries he was lying bleeding to death for three hours before he could
be rescued. This incident turned into South Australia’s longest siege in history – 42 hours and 2000 rounds of ammunition exchanged
between offender and the Police.
The first Doctor to treat him initially thought he was dead. However, when Derrick took a last dying gasp of breath it convinced the Doctor to
‘have a go’ despite very real dangers to himself. The Doctor later told Derrick he had been just 30 seconds from death. Incredibly and despite
many predictions, Derrick survived and in doing so demonstrated that individuals can defy the odds; nothing is impossible when you are well
prepared, maintain confidence in your own ability and have a Never Say Die determination to win.
Derrick has a self admitted twisted, warped and cheeky sense of humour that makes this a very funny, sometimes heart-wrenching but
always and moving story with strong, deep-seated messages. Messages of what you can achieve with a "Never Say Die" attitude, when you
aim for the best but are prepared for the worst and if you can laugh at yourself in the midst of your worst nightmare.
The real inspiration is Derrick’s attitude to living life to the full. Derrick’s first goal was simply to return to his family alive. With that achieved he
looked to the future. Many doubted he would ever walk properly let alone return to work as a policeman. But Derrick’s Never Say Die attitude
had him striving for the best possible what ever that was. 2 ½ years after the shooting, after trial and failure and trial again, he made a
triumphant return to the elite STAR Group and back to the physically, mentally and emotionally demanding work he loved so much ... with no
restrictions. He has since competed in triathlons, skydived and taken up wakeboarding and yes, even speaks in public. Life is great again
and still getting better while he searches for new challenges.
Derrick is a highly sought-after speaker with a totally open, natural, humourous, charismatic and dynamic style of presenting. He is
sensational for opening and closing conferences, inspiring people to push themselves even further and achieve things that others believe
impossible. He has worked with some of Australia’s leading companies to deliver inspiring keynote presentations and powerful workshops.
AusTac Australian Tactical Training Consultants -
Introduction to Tactical Firearms and Behavioral Training Concepts TBC To sponsor this session see our Sponsor Options page
(Firearms session content TBC)
Simply stated, our Mission is to provide armed professionals with the highest-quality realistic & operationally specific training possible - to
enable you to prevail in high-risk environments.
Even though our training and simmunition methodology is unique our operational doctrine is not specifically "ours"; it is however a synthesis
of what is in the environment, revealed through many years of intense training and actual operations.
As a result our courses development has been based on years of experience, feedback and real world missions. As such our training will
continue to evolve and change over time as we interact with those that go in harms way and find more efficient ways of training and operating
in response to changing mission requirements or criminal trends. This module will introduce Behavioural Training Concepts in tactical
weaponcraft and utilise both marking rounds and live fire evolutions. AusTac believe that conducting training that is simply a check the box or
attendance only style is futile, unproductive and dangerous, (we leave that style of training to your employer). We prefer to offer courses that
are a wise investment for the serious operator wishing to increase proficiency and the probability of prevailing in a real world, high risk
environment in which adversaries think, move and shoot back.
As such AusTac courses feature a very demanding “Force-on-Force training” approach. Reasons for this include the following:
• Allows the participant to train classroom taught principles and techniques in an operationally specific manner.
• Allows the participant to test that what they have been trained in previously will be successful in a realistic simulation of a realistic
engagement(s)
• Allows the participant to operate, perform and effectively manage critical skills necessary to succeed while the “Sympathetic Nervous
System” is activated.
• Allows the participant to test new equipment, technology, strategies, principles, tactics and techniques in a variety of environments with
diverse environments and adversaries.
• To acclimatize the sub-conscious to the stresses of realistic engagements and to ingrain within the sub-conscious conditioned stimulus
and conditioned response.
